How to Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid on a Honda CR-V

In order for the power steering system to operate properly on your Honda CR-V, make sure the fluid is at the proper level, since it can diminish over time. As part of your routine maintenance, check the power steering fluid every 3,000 miles or every three months, whichever comes first.

Instructions

    • 1

Park your Honda on a level surface, and ensure that the front wheels are pointed straight ahead. Turn off the car and let it cool down.

    • 2

Open the hood and locate the power steering system's fluid reservoir, near the left front portion of the engine compartment on the inner fender panel. The reservoir is translucent and plastic.

    • 3

Inspect the exterior of the reservoir. There are two lines you can check on the outside without even having to remove the cap to the reservoir. The fluid level should fall between the two indicator lines.

    • 4

If the fluid level is below the indicator line, remove the cap by hand, and insert a funnel into the top of the reservoir. Pour the specified type of power steering fluid into the reservoir until it reaches the appropriate level. Then replace the cap.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the power steering fluid reservoir regularly requires more fluid, check the power steering hoses, hose connections, pump and steering gear for leaks.
