How to Do '80s Hair

The hairstyles of the 1980s were all about creating a big, messy look. Since this look was all about volume and getting your hair as big and as high as possible, this look can be adapted to virtually any hair type or length. It helps if you have a lot of short layers on the top of your head---this makes it easier to tease at the top.

Things You'll Need

• Water
• Shampoo and conditioner
• Hair dryer
• Bristle brush
• Hair spray
• Curling iron
• Crimping iron

Instructions

1. Wash your hair---the natural oils on your head will weigh it down at the top. Turn your head upside-down as you blow-dry and brush your hair away from your head.

2. Use your bristle brush to back comb or tease your hair at the roots all over the top of your head. Spritz on some hair spray to hold it up.

3. Hold your hair up at the top and use your crimping iron to create a crimped look in different sections of your hair to create a different texture. You can also create voluminous texture by using a curling iron to curl, spraying and frizzing out the curls.

4. Curl the front part of your bangs down and curl the back section of your bangs up and to the side. If you don't have bangs, you can still tease and curl the front of your hair around your face to make it look big and stand out. Use as much hair spray as you need to get it as high as you can.
