Instructions

    • 1

Stay hydrated. Consume a minimum eight 8-oz. glasses of water. Water is essential not only for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but for flushing out toxins and bacteria that enter our system.

    • 2

Prepare chicken noodle soup. Whether it is a homemade recipe or prepackaged chicken noodle soup mix, be sure to fill your body with this age-old cold remedy. Chicken noodle soup contains several vitamins and nutrients, along with a natural decongestant that will relieve a stuffy nose.

    • 3

Keep warm. Wrap yourself in a warm blanket, turn on the television and relax as much as possible. When feeling ill, you must listen to the body and give it proper time to heal. Keeping warm will soothe and calm those cold chills.

    • 4

Have some yogurt. Yogurt contains many natural ingredients proven to boost the immune system. Choose your favorite flavor and have as much as you want--in moderation, of course. Boosting the body's immune system will help fight off the rhinovirus infection and have you back on your feet in no time.

    • 5

Sip on some honey-flavored tea. Make a mug of your favorite tea and add 3 tsp. of honey. Consume honey-flavored tea three times a day. Honey is a natural cough suppressor, and assists in the termination of respiratory tract infections associated with the common cold.

    • 6

Purchase a bag of lemon-flavored cough drops; any brand is suitable. Suck on two to three cough drops every other hour. Cough drops suppress the cough and clear the nasal passages. Lemon contains a high dosage of vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system and shortens an infection's symptoms.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not like the taste of lemon-flavored cough drops, choose your own flavor. Lemon is an added bonus for boosting the immune system, but is not required.

  • Get an adequate amount of sleep. Your body needs rest when any illness occurs.

  • Visit your primary doctor or local physician if cold symptoms last for more than one week. Pneumonia and bronchitis are common infections that develop during a common cold's duration and antibiotics are required to treat the infection.

  • When sucking on a cough drop, sit straight up; do not lie down. A cough drop, if swallowed whole, is still large enough to block the airways and be fatal.

  • Always allow beverages and soups that are hot, time to cool before consuming.
