1
Prepare cake batter using a mix or a recipe. The cake mix needs to produce 6 -1/2 to 10 cups of batter.
-
2
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Begin preparing the cake pan for the batter.
-
-
3
Spray the pan with nonstick spray or line the pan with melted butter and loose flour. Even if the pan is nonstick, ensuring that the cake does not stick will create favorable results when removing the cake.
-
4
Separate the batter into two equal parts and pour half into the pan for the bottom of the cupcake and half into the pan for the top of the cupcake.
-
5
Bake the cupcake-shaped cake for 60 to 70 minutes at the recommended heat. Insert a toothpick into each half to ensure the cake is finished cooking. If the toothpick comes out with cake batter on it, bake the cake for an additional 10 minutes.
-
6
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, placing the pan on a wire rack.
-
7
Turn the cake pan over onto the wire rack. Allow the cake to cool completely before applying icing and decorations.
-
8
Apply a generous amount of icing to the bottom half of the cupcake. Smooth the icing on top of the bottom section.
-
9
Place the top half of the cupcake on top of the cupcake's bottom. The icing will keep the two halves together.
-
10
Place the cake on a cake platter and set out your decorating supplies.
-
11
Decorate the cupcake. Transform the bottom into a puper holder; smooth the icing out or create a candy shell. Frost and decorate the top of the cake, embellishing with sprinkles, candies or a cake topper to add pizazz.
