How to Remove Mylar Film

Mylar is a thin polyester film used in a variety of products. It is commonly found on car and home windows as the tinting agent. Mylar is easily broken up by ammonia, which is why you wouldn't want to use ammonia to clean tinted windows. However, you can use a mild ammonia solution to clean a Mylar film off of glass or other materials.

Things You'll Need

• Ammonia
• Distilled vinegar
• Water
• Spray bottle
• Clean towels

Instructions

How to Remove Mylar Film

1. Mix equal parts of the ammonia, water and vinegar in the spray bottle.

2. Spray the solution on the Mylar film.

3. Allow the ammonia to penetrate the Mylar for a few minutes.

4. Wipe away the Mylar.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 as needed to remove the rest of the Mylar film.

Tips & Warnings

• Never mix ammonia with chlorine-based products. This will create dangerous fumes.

• Always use ammonia in a well-vented area to prevent inhalation.
