How to Cut Coaxial Cable

Coaxial cable is a type of electrical cable that has an insulator and shield around a copper core. It is most frequently used in home video systems. Some Internet networks also use coaxial cables. Cutting a coaxial cable also requires a stripped end be made. The stripped cable end can be placed into a connector or other device to make a connection. Proper tools should be used when cutting a coaxial cable to ensure it is done properly and safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut through the coaxial cable using the cable cutters.

    • 2

Place the cut end of the cable into the coaxial cable stripper. The cut end should be flush with the lip of the stripper.

    • 3

Turn the stripper clockwise for six full turns. Immediately afterward turn the stripper counterclockwise for two full turns.

    • 4

Remove the coaxial cable from the stripper.

    • 5

Pull off the cut off insulation from the copper core of the cable. You now have a cut coaxial cable that is ready for use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear safety goggles when cutting and stripping wire. There is a chance a piece of the cable could be propelled when cutting or stripping is taking place.
