How to Make a Silk Handkerchief Dress
A silk handkerchief dress looks like a breezy, expensive designer piece in your wardrobe, but you can easily make one yourself for less than $30. Once the materials are gathered, you can complete this project in about an hour, depending on your previous sewing experience.
The dress is basically two squares of fabric turned on the diagonal. The larger the squares, the longer your dress will be. Measure your body from the shoulder down to where you'd like dress to end to get the correct length piece.
Things You'll Need
- 2 squares of silk fabric or coordinating large silk scarves

Sew along your pin line, removing the pins as you go.

5
Pin the edge perpendicular to the open top corner, beginning about 12 inches down. This will be the back of the dress.

Sew along this pin line, removing the pins as you go.

7
Turn the dress right side out.
-
8
Securely stitch 12 inches of rattail cord to the tops of each of the top points of each square to act as ties.

If desired, use the remainder of the rattail cord to belt the dress, either at the waist or under the bust line.
