How to Block Websites Without Using Content Advisor

If you are a parent, there are probably numerous websites you don't want your child to view. You can block the sites through the Web browser and content advisor, but these are easy to unlock. You can also purchase special software, but that costs money. Luckily for you, there is a way to block a website on the computer without buying any products and without your children being able to remove the block.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button, followed by "Run."

    • 2

Wait for the "Run" window to appear, then type "C:\\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc" (without the quotation marks) and click "OK." This opens a directory.

    • 3

Right-click the "hosts" icon and select "Open" from the pull-down menu. This launches a dialogue box asking you what program you want to open "hosts" with.

    • 4

Scroll down, select "Notepad" and click "OK."

    • 5

Read through the notepad document until you find where it says "client host" on the left side of the screen.

    • 6

Type "127.0.0.1" (without quotation marks) under "client host," hit the tab key and type in the website you want to block such as www.facebook.com or www.yahoo.com.

    • 7

Click "File," followed by "Save." Close the "hosts" document. The website is now blocked from access.
