How to Make a Natural Cat Flea Collar

If your cat ever had a flea infestation, you know how hard it is to get rid of the fleas. It is wise to supply your cat with a flea collar to repel fleas. Store-brand flea collars, however, contain chemicals that you may not want to use on your cat. In that case, you can make your own natural cat flea collar at home.

Things You'll Need

• Eyedropper
• Rosemary or rose geranium essential oil
• Nylon collar

Instructions

1. Use an eyedropper to drip two or three drops of either rosemary essential oil or rose geranium essential oil on a nylon collar. These oils repel both fleas and ticks. Nylon collars absorb essential oils well.

2. Place the collar on your cat. Make sure it isn't too tight or too loose.

3. Reapply drops of one of the essential oils once each week. This provides all of the protection your cat needs.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not use pennyroyal oil on your flea collar. Pennyroyal oil is considered a natural oil, but it is harmful to cats. It can cause liver failure.

• Do not use citrus essential oils on your flea collar, including citronella essential oil. They are harmful to cats.
