How to Administer Rescue Remedy to Pets

Rescue Remedy is a liquid homeopathic solution that alleviates stress and produces a calming effect. Many pet owners find that a little Rescue Remedy can help soothe their furry companions in times of acute crisis -- a trip to the vet, a thunderstorm, moving to a new home or even seizures.

The trick, though, is to get the Rescue Remedy into your pet -- not on the floor, on your clothes or on his fur -- without causing even more stress.

Instructions

    • 1

Add a few drops to the water bowl. Every time you refill your pet's water dish, add three or four drops of Rescue Remedy to the water. This is particularly useful if your pet has a recurring stressful condition like seizures.

    • 2

Turn it into a treat. Most dogs love yogurt, and most cats love the juice from a tuna fish can. Stir two to three drops of Rescue Remedy into your pet's favorite treat and serve at the first rumble of thunder.

    • 3

Serve at mealtime. Once you've prepared your pet's meal, add a few drops to the kibble as a garnish. Your pet won't even know she's being medicated.

    • 4

Administer directly. If the crisis is immediate, and only if your pet will let you, gently squeeze a few drops directly into his mouth between the cheek and gums.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is an alcohol-free Rescue Remedy formula made specifically for pets, but most animals can ingest the human formula with no adverse effects.

  • Only use liquid Rescue Remedy for your pet. According to the manufacturer, the Rescue Remedy pastilles contain xylitol, which is bad for your pet.
