How to Create a Hidden Partition

Hidden partitions are invisible to the operating system and other users. You can use hidden partitions to store sensitive files and documents, hidden from other users and thereby accidental editing or deletion. An easy way to create hidden partitions is with Norton PartitionMagic 8.

      Download and install Norton PartitionMagic 8 (see link in Resources), available for $69.95, as of November 2009.

      Go to the "Start" menu, point to "All Programs," then "Norton PartitionMagic" and click on the "PartitionMagic" application. The first time you run the program, you will be prompted to activate the software. Click "Yes" to purchase and activate the software. You can run in demo mode to test the program, but you will need to activate the software later for your changes to take effect.

      When the PartitionMagic window opens, click on the partition that you wish to hide.

      Click on the "Partition" menu, click on "Advanced," and then click on "Hidden Partition."

      Click on "View" menu and then click on "Operations Pending."

      In the window that opens, click on the "Apply" button and then wait for the process to complete.
