1
On the side of the bed, place the measuring tape at the point where you want the finished bedspread to hit. Bring it over the top of the bed and down to the same point on the opposite side. Add about an inch for the seam allowance. This will be the width of your bedspread.
-
2
Do the same for the length of your bed. Make sure it hits the same distance from the floor as in the first step. Add an inch or so for the seam allowance.

3
Purchase your fabric and poly filling. Determine how fluffy you want your comforter and purchase the appropriate amount of poly filling. Read the bag to see how much each bag fills as every brand is different.
-
4
Take your fabric directly to the washing machine when you get home. Wash it, then put it in the dryer to eliminate the shrinkage factor. Iron your fabric flat and use your rotary cutter to cut off the edges to keep them smooth and workable.
-
5
Cut your fabric to the measurements you took. Cut two identical pieces with those measurements. Get your sewing machine ready. Place the two identical large fabric pieces together with the dark sides touching. Line them up perfectly so it looks like one piece. Pin all along the outer edges at every inch or two.
-
6
Sew the edges together, at about an inch or so in. Stop when you are almost back where you started. Leave a gap a little bigger than your fist. Put your hand in and pull the comforter through the hole, turning it right side out.
-
7
Open the bags of poly filling. Pull it apart in handfuls as you fill up the comforter. Spread the filling around so it doesn't look too bumpy. Sew the gap shut after the desired amount of filling has been placed inside.

Tips & Warnings
Get some extra fabric just in case you make a mistake or decide to make pillow shams to match. You can splatter some paint or douse your fabric in bleach before getting started if you are into a funkier look.
Do not worry if your bedspread looks super fluffy to you. Poly fill will settle and flatten out over time.
