1
Allow the glue to dry on the clothing prior to trying to remove it. If the glue is still wet, it will only spread further on the fabric.
-
2
Dampen a cotton swab with acetone nail polish remover. Test the product on an inconspicuous area of the clothing to be sure it will not damage the fabric.
-
-
3
Blot the nail glue spot with the acetone-soaked cotton swab. Hold the cotton swab on the glue spot for two minutes.
-
4
Rub the glue spot briskly with a toothbrush. The glue should begin to flake off. Continue blotting with acetone and scrubbing with a toothbrush until all of the glue is off. It will flake off in layers, so you may need to repeat this several times depending on how much glue is on the clothing.
-
5
Scrub the glue spot gently with an emery board or fine sandpaper if the spot is not gone. Do not rub too hard, or you may rip the fabric.
-
6
Drip two or three drops of laundry soap onto the area where the glue stain was located. Use your fingers to massage the detergent into the fabric.
-
7
Wash the article of clothing in the washer. Check the clothing thoroughly for any traces of the nail glue stain once the wash cycle is complete. Do not put the clothing in the dryer if there is any glue still on the fabric. The dryer heat will cause the stain to set in and make it even more difficult to remove.
-
8
Dab some lighter fluid or WD-40 onto the glue stain if it still remains on the clothing. Use a toothbrush to rub it into the fabric. Remember to test the product on an inconspicuous area of the clothing prior to applying it.
