How to Make a Wood Magazine Holder

Things You'll Need
- 20-by-1-by-12-inch soft wood board (for back)
- 20-by-1-by-6-inch soft wood board (for front)
- 20-by-1-by-4-inch soft wood board (for base)
- 3 pieces of 12-by-1-by-4-inch board (for sides and center)
- No. 6 finishing nails
- Sandpaper (80 grit and 210 grit)
- Stain and varnish
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Hammer
- Square
- Handsaw
- Paintbrush (small)
- Rag

Using the square and ruler, ensure measurements are exact for the back, front and base boards.

To make the center and side pieces, take one piece of 12-by-1-by-4-inch board and use the pencil to mark on one edge of the board at 10 ½ inches. Mark the opposite side at 4 ¾ inches. Use the ruler to mark a diagonal line between these two points.

Repeat Step 2 for the two remaining 12-by-1-by-4-inch boards. Cut along the marks.

Use the hammer and No. 6 finishing nails to assemble the base board to the back board. Assemble the front board to the base board.

Assemble the two side pieces between the front and back boards. Ensure they sit flush with the base board. Secure the center piece in place halfway between either side. Use the hammer and nails to assemble.

Use 80-grit sandpaper on all surfaces. Follow with 210-grit sandpaper to smooth surfaces.

Apply stain with the rag. Varnish with the brush.
