2. Study all your course material upon completion of the locksmith program. Sign up for the locksmith certification test offered through your program. The test is multiple choice and will cover all the classes you took in preparation. The entire program and test costs an average of $300.

3. Apply at various locksmith, construction, or security companies. A certified locksmith is a valuable asset to these businesses as you can provide constant security service. Locksmiths provide their own tools, which don't cost much more than $100 for average picks and key cylinder tools.
