      Sign-up for a certified locksmith program through your local college or through one of the links provided under the additional resources. You will cover a variety of subjects that will help you pass the locksmith certification test. Courses include lock-picking, key cylinder knowledge, safety codes and many more.

      Study all your course material upon completion of the locksmith program. Sign up for the locksmith certification test offered through your program. The test is multiple choice and will cover all the classes you took in preparation. The entire program and test costs an average of $300.

      Apply at various locksmith, construction, or security companies. A certified locksmith is a valuable asset to these businesses as you can provide constant security service. Locksmiths provide their own tools, which don't cost much more than $100 for average picks and key cylinder tools.
