Make it relaxing, yet creative.
Make it relaxing, yet creative.

Your office should be a welcoming retreat, a creative environment, and a place with little distraction. Surround it with familiarity, inspiration, and comfort. Make it your second home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paint charts
  • organizers
  • sketch or plan
  • wall decor
  • multi-position office chair
  • spacious desk
  1. Step 1

Paint your walls a shade of orange. Color provides inspiration. Orange is unique and provides warmth. It is a vibrant color that helps with mental stimulation. Add blues, grays, golds, and corals to enhance the decor.

  2. Step 2

Purchase items to help you organize your desk. File cabinets are essential, but don't forget table dividers for working files, outgoing and incoming trays, a large wall calendar, phone directory, pen and pencil container, post notes, calculator, bookends for dictionary, thesaurus, and other office aids, as well as small baskets for odds and ends.

  3. Step 3

Make a diagram of your office. This will help you arrange your furniture for easy conversation and inspiration. You may want your desk to face a window or look towards the office door. Your file cabinet should be within reach as well as your computer, phone, and fax machine. Comfortable chairs should be conveniently placed, so visitors can enter and face you while conversing. You should be able to move easily around the office without bumping into any objects.

  4. Step 4

Add wall decor. Hang pictures of places visited or places you wish to visit. Place inspirational sayings where you can remind yourself of what is important to you. Don't forget to include family photos. You want your office to feel like home.

  5. Step 5

Select a good quality office chair. Your office chair should have multi-positions, so you can raise and lower it to your desk, as well as adjust it for your back and height.

  6. Step 6

Look for a spacious desk. You want to be able to work with room. The L-shaped desk is a good design because you can have the computer on the short side and use the long side for spreading out your work. You want a desk large enough to support your printer or fax machine, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring in one or two house plants. More will become a nuisance because you must take care of them.
  • Add soft music for inspiration and serenity.
  • Avoid crowding your office with unnecessary clutter. Clutter causes stress.
