How to Get a Master Bedroom Ready for a Baby

A lot of new parents feel more comfortable having their newborn sleep in their room for the first few months of life. If you are going to bunk with your baby, you will want to set up your room before the big day arrives. You will need to organize your room so that you can easily get to the things you need in a timely manner.

• Bassinet or Crib
• Sheets
• Changing table pad
• Medium Basket
• Wipes
• Diapers
• Alcohol
• Cotton swabs
• Diaper rash cream
• Thermometer
• Bulb Syringe
• Newborn clothes
• Large basket
• Burp rags
• Receiving blankets

Instructions

1. Clear a space in your room for the bassinet or crib. You will want this close to your bed because you will be getting up several times during the night for feedings.

2. Set up a spot to change your baby's diapers and clothes. You can clear off your dresser or bathroom counter. Put the changing pad on top of the space.

3. Organize changing station by filling a medium sized basket with all of the necessary supplies. Include diapers, wipes, alcohol (this is for cord care) cotton swabs, diaper rash cream, thermometer and bulb syringe. Place this basket on or near the changing station.

4. Clear out a drawer in your dresser to organize and store the new baby's clothes. Be sure to put plenty of sleepers, onesies and socks. You may need to change her sleeper in the middle of the night.

5. Fill a large basket with receiving blankets, extra sheets, changing pad covers and burp rags. Put this somewhere that is easy to get to during the middle of the night.

Tips & Warnings

• You may want to put a separate hamper in your room for the baby's linens and clothes.

• If you are breastfeeding, set up a separate basket for breast pads and lotion. Put this near your bed.

• You may want to put the baby's towels and washcloths in your linen closet in the master bathroom.
