Re-purposing excess wallpaper can create accent art that coordinates with the rest of the room. Papered paneling and framed samples of wallpaper are one way to use wallpaper as accent art to complement a room. Colors and shapes in wallpaper patterns can be dominant or subdued. Unconventional uses of materials, like making accent art with wallpaper, is a signature skill of a budget decorator.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wallpaper
  • 8x8x1-inch canvas blocks or picture frames
  • 1/4-inch round wall moulding
  • Finishing nails
  • Scissors
  • Water

    Make Wall Art from Wallpaper

  1. Step 1

Cut a 9-inch square of wallpaper, and dip it in water to activate the glue and adhere it to the canvas block. If you choose to use a picture frame instead, skip the water and simply trim the edges of the wallpaper to fit into the frame.

  2. Step 2

Allow the glue to dry overnight. If your wallpaper pattern can accommodate extra embellishments, like ribbons or swatches of other fabrics, add them with craft glue.

  3. Step 3

Hang your canvas squares or wallpaper art on a wall that's painted or covered in a coordinating paper.

  4. Make Wallpaper Paneling

  5. Step 1

Measure the size you want for your panels. This will vary greatly depending upon the dimensions of the room. It's good to have 6 to 8 inches between panels and to keep panels 6 to 8 inches away from the edges of the wall or other molding, like door frames.

  6. Step 2

Use a pencil to mark the area of the wall where the panels will be placed. Cut the wallpaper to fit into each panel. Dip the wallpaper in water to activate the adhesive, and apply the paper to the wall, smoothing out any bubbles.

  7. Step 3

Cut the 1/4-inch round molding to size, making sure that the corners are at a 45-degree angle. Use finishing nails to secure the molding to the wall.
