How to Attract Finch Birds
Finches of many color (red, blue, yellow and purple) varieties will be attracted to your home with the right food and water. Soon, you'll experience the pretty singing voice and spectacular characteristics of these tiny birds. Purple finches are easy to see in yards throughout the United States. Gold finches are known for their picky eating habits. They will require a bit more work. Providing regular seeds and other types of bird food will keep wild finches coming back to your yard during different seasons.

Instructions

Regular Finches
-
1
Purchase a tubular feeder from a pet store or online. These finch attractors will be tube-like in appearance and they also have tiny holes up and down the length of the feeder.
-
2
Place black sunflower seeds in your feeder because finches are particularly fond of these.
-
-
3
Add a variety of bread crumbs, bits of fruit, crushed egg shells, thistle seeds and salts. These lesser-known foods for finches attract them along with sunflower seeds.
-
4
Make sure there is enough food in your feeder to avoid finch bickering.
-
5
Avoid problems with larger bird invaders by leaving a tray out from underneath the feeder.
-
6
Provide a bird bath so the birds have a consistent water source. During the winter, heat water to make sure it doesn't freeze.
Gold Finches
-
7
Keep gold finches, notoriously picky eaters, happy by making sure sunflower seeds are fresh and dry.
-
8
Pick up the feeder and shake it once in a while to make sure your seeds are dry.
-
9
Put fresh seed in the feeder once a month if the gold finches haven't eaten any.
