How to Calculate the Tile for a Shower Stall

Save

Although tiling your shower stall may sound like a daunting task, it doesn't take as much effort and skill as you may think. When you first go about planning out your home improvement project, you need to determine exactly how much tile you need to properly cover the stall. To do this, it is best to know exactly what tile you want to use before you try to add up exactly how much you need.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Measure the height of the first wall you want to cover with tile. Measure this in inches. Now measure the width. Write these numbers down so you can easily retrieve them.

  • Divide both the height and the width of your measurement by the size of your tile. This means, if you came up with 90 inches as the height by 60 inches as the width and the tile you want is 6 x 6 inches, divide each side by six. This means you need 15 tiles for the height and 10 tiles for the width.

  • Multiply your number of height tiles by your number of width tiles and this is the amount of tiles you need to properly cover the wall. If you need 15 for the height and 10 for the width, the total wall coverage is 150 tiles.

  • Measure the other wall areas and perform the exact same math for all of the walls. Add all of the wall totals up and this is how many shower tiles you need for the entire project.
