How to Replace in Cabin Filter on KIA Rio

The cabin filter on a Kia Rio is a small filter located just above the glove box on the passenger side of the dash. The cabin filter works in conjunction with the heating and air conditioning system on your Rio. When the outside air intakes are closed air is circulated through the passenger cabin and cleaned by the cabin filter. This helps to reduce airborne irritants such as pollen or cigarette smoke.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat blade screwdriver
  • Open the glove box and empty out its contents.

  • Locate the tab on either end of the glove box, use a flat blade screwdriver to disengage each tab. This will allow the glove box to drop down and reveal the cabin filter.

  • Pull the old cabin filter out. Note the direction of the filter before you remove it.

  • Place the new cabin filter into position. Be sure to install the new filter in the same direction as the old one.

  • Lift the glove box up to reengage the retaining tabs.

  • Refill the glove box.

Tips & Warnings

  • Shine a light through the old filter. If light passes through, it is OK to reuse. If the filter looks clogged and no light can pass through, it must be replaced.
