How to Make a Spa Wrap Towel

Sew a simple and low-cost spa towel wrap for yourself, as a gift, or for a college student. The basic towel is a quick project or good for a beginning sewer. Add an elastic band at the top if additional sizing and fit is needed on the towel. Use a swim towel to create a beach cover up or smaller towels for a child-size version.

Things You'll Need

• Bath towel
• ½ yard non-adhesive ¾-inch Velcro
• Thread
• Sewing machine
• 1-inch-wide elastic
• Safety pin

Instructions

Basic spa towel

1. Choose a bath towel that will fit around the person who will wear it. Lay the towel flat, so it is facing you horizontally.

2. Cut one piece of Velcro to a length of 15 inches. Separate the two pieces. Pin the hook Velcro piece ¼ inch from the top edge, starting at the horizontal left-hand corner of the towel.

3. Turn the towel over and pin the loop Velcro piece ¼ inch from the top edge of the opposite corner of the loop piece. The two pieces are now on opposite sides of the towel.

4. Stitch both the loop and hook pieces of Velcro to the towel by sewing around the entire piece with a straight or zigzag stitch.

5. Wear the spa towel by wrapping it around the body just underneath the armpits with the Velcro at the top. Affix the Velcro at the desired tightness.

Spa towel with elastic band

1. Lay the towel flat so it is horizontal and facing you. Pin a 4-inch piece of loop Velcro ¼ inch from the top edge of the horizontal left-hand corner. Pin a 10-inch piece of hook Velcro on the reverse side opposite corner of the towel. Place the hook Velcro 1¼ inches down from the edge of the towel.

2. Stitch both pieces of Velcro to the towel by sewing around the entire piece of Velcro with a straight or zigzag stitch.

3. Fold the top edge of the towel over 1¼ inches towards the reverse side hook Velcro. Do not cover it. The loop side of the Velcro will be on the inside of the casing. Stitch across the lower edge of the casing approximately 1/8 inch from the towel edge.

4. Measure the chest circumference of the person who will wear the towel. Cut a piece of elastic that is 8 inches less than that measurement. Pin a safety pin to one end of the elastic and feed through the casing in a push and pull method. Pin the end of elastic at each opening of the casing. Stitch across the casing end and elastic to hold in place.

5. Wear the spa towel by wrapping it around the body just underneath the armpits with the Velcro at the top of the body. Affix the Velcro to hold in place.

Tips & Warnings

• A shorter piece of Velcro can be used, however a 15-inch piece allows for size adjustment with the towel.

• The elastic casing assists with holding the towel in place on the person.

• Affix the Velcro prior to washing to prevent lint accumulation in the Velcro.
