How to Load Your Pick Up Truck

Having a pickup is great because you can always help someone move, and can pick up lumber at the hardware store. If you don't know how to correctly load your pickup truck, however, you won't be able to maximize the load and be safe. Fortunately, it's not very difficult to accomplish.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the vehicle on a level surface, that way it will be easier to load the truck and the cargo won't slide.

    • 2

Load up the largest items first and, with the help of an assistant, pick up the item and place it on the tailgate.

    • 3

Push the cargo towards the back of the bed off of the tailgate. You want to jam the cargo against the back wall of the bed and bedsides.

    • 4

Repeat this process with the next item, working your way across the bed.

    • 5

Fill any voids in the cargo with smaller items, ones that can fill the gap and keep the load tight. By keeping the load tight against itself, you can make it more stable.

    • 6

Tie one end of the rope or tie down to either the stake pocket or tie down mount on the bed.

    • 7

Run the rope across the cargo. Work the rope so that it holds the larger items hard against the back of the cab, running the rope toward the other tie down or stake pocket along the way.

    • 8

Tie down the other end of the rope to the tie down mount and pull it tight. The items are secured against each other now, and won't move easily.

    • 9

Close the tailgate when you're done loading the truck, and double check all of the cargo to make sure it is secure. If you have to, add rope or tie downs to make the cargo and the bed act as one unit.
