How to Clean a Hot Tub Filter With Muratic Acid
Cleaning a hot tub filter on a regular basis ensures maximum efficiency and prolonged life of the hot tub. The filter is responsible for keeping the water clean and sanitary. Cleaning a hot tub filter cartridge with muratic acid is the most cost effective way to clean the filter since most cleaners on the market are very expensive. Things You'll Need
- Screwdriver
- Garden hose
- Spray nozzle
- Muratic acid
- Bucket
- Rubber gloves
- Face mask
- Goggles

Disconnect the power to the hot tub by either unplugging the hot tub or shutting off the fuse that controls the hot tub.

Locate the filter housing, which is usually found on the side of the hot tub. Refer to your owner's manual for exact location. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws holding the filter housing together, and remove the filter cartridge.

Remove dirt and debris from the filter cartridge by spraying the cartridge with a garden hose. Using a nozzle attached to the garden hose is a good way to remove dirt within the pleats of the cartridge.

Mix one part muratic acid and 20 parts water in a bucket. Wear rubber gloves, a face mask and goggles when handling muratic acid as the acid is very toxic and can burn your skin.

Place the filter cartridge in the bucket, and let the cartridge soak for 5 minutes or until the solution stops bubbling.

Remove the cartridge from the solution, and rinse the cartridge well with the garden hose.

Insert the clean cartridge back into the filter housing and reassemble the housing, making sure screws are secure and tight. Plug the hot tub's electrical cord back in, or turn the fuse back on to restore power.

Tips & Warnings
Muratic acid is extremely toxic and dangerous to inhale, so be sure to work in a well-ventilated area.

Thanks, our tub stopped running because of the filter and we are hopeing to clean it instead of having to replace it often.
