Step 1
Center a large mirror, silver tray or large flowered wreath on the mantel. Collect several silver, wooden or porcelain candlesticks. Set smokeless, drip-less candles in the candlesticks and place them on the mantel.
-
Step 2
Cut two pieces of nylon tulle or organza fabric that is one foot longer than the length of the fireplace from the mantel to the bottom of the fireplace. Cut a third piece that is three feet longer than the width of the fireplace.
-
Step 3
Place adhesive hooks on to the mantel sides and center. Hand the side panels of fabric from the side hooks and let it pool on the floor. Use safety pins to fasten each end of the long piece to the side panels. Drape the center piece over the center hook.
-
Step 4
Screw large coffee cup hanger hooks into the front sides and center of the wooden portion of the mantle shelf. Drape a fresh or silk flower wedding garland across the front of the mantle. Secure the ends by wiring or tying them to the hooks. Step back to view the swag and adjust as necessary.
-
Step 5
Place 3-to-5-foot tall vases of flowers or topiary that complement the swag on the extreme right and left sides of the mantel top.
-
Step 6
Place a dozen pillar candles or a fireside basket floral arrangement inside of the fireplace to complete the decorative display.
