Things You'll Need:
- A sunscreen with the right ingredients. See suggestions in the resources section below.
-
Step 1
Choose sunscreen with a high SPF.
It’s important to get a sunscreen with a high enough SPF to prevent sun damage. In most cases the SPF should be at least 15, although some dermatologists recommend you go even higher. -
Step 2
Select a sunscreen with a physical blocker.
SPFs work by blocking sun chemically, but physical blockers are helpful as well. Two examples are zinc oxide (think of the white stuff you wore on your nose at the pool as a kid) or titanium oxide. -
Step 3
Apply sunscreen regularly.
Even the smallest amount of sun exposure can exacerbate Melasma so it is important to wear sunscreen at all times if you are going to be in the sun. This includes sun exposure through car windows and even house or office windows. You don’t need to be basking on a beach in order to wear sunscreen.
