Things You'll Need:
- your cat!
-
Step 1
The best thing to look for in a collar for your cat is one that has a release on it. This means that if you put the collar on and pull hard on it, it snaps off. The reason why you want this is because cats are very curious creatures and can very easily get their collar caught on something. You want the collar to be able to snap off rather than have your cat choke to death.
-
Step 2
There is a very good chance your cat will hate having a collar on and to be humane it is best to take it off if this happens. If you are concerned that without a collar, you cat could escape from your house and become lost I recommend getting your cat micro-chipped.
-
Step 3
A microchip is a small, scannable chip that is inserted under the skin of the cat. If your cat becomes lost and turns up at a vet clinic, stray facility or police station these facilities have scanners to check for the chip. Once scanned, the chip will provide your name, email, address, phone number, etc so that you can be contacted.

on 11/10/2009 Love the article on getting a good collar for your cat. We had a collar that rubbed the fur off of my cat when I was little and we had to try out several before finding a good one that she liked and would leave alone.
