How to Reuse K-Cups for a Great Cup of Coffee

How to Reuse K-Cups for a Great Cup of Coffee thumbnail
There are many ways to turn coffee grounds into coffee to drink.

K-cups are used in the Keurig coffee system. This type of coffee maker brews a single cup of coffee at your command. You can easily switch between flavors and strengths so everyone in your home gets exactly the type of coffee desired. The coffee system requires the use of "K-cups" instead of a standard filter and coffee system. The machine punctures the sealed cups, then water goes through, brewing a perfect cup of coffee each time. You can reuse K-cups by filling them with your own coffee, saving money in the process. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Save the K-cup pods once used. Peel the top off the K-cup and thoroughly rinse out the pod. You can do many K-cups at the same time, or you can do it each time you brew a cup of coffee.

    • 2

      Dry the K-cup thoroughly.

    • 3

Fill the K-cup with finely-ground coffee. You can use any flavor or strength of coffee you like.

    • 4

Place the My-kap lid over the top of the K-cup. My-kap is a small plastic lid that clips onto the top of the K-cup. You can also use a small circle of plastic or foil, just fold it securely beneath the lip on the edge of the K-cup to get a good seal.

    • 5

Put the K-cup inside the coffee maker and brew your coffee as normal.

    • 6

Repeat the steps as often as you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • Line up the hole on the bottom of the K-cup with the puncture point in the machine. This keeps a single hole at the bottom of the cup, as opposed to making multiple holes.

  • Try different levels of coarseness, if the coffee does not come out as you desire.

  • If you puncture too many holes in the bottom of the K-cup, you are more likely to get grounds in your coffee.
