Step 1
The verb for "to go" in Spanish is very short: "ir". It sounds a lot like the English word "ear" but is said much more quickly.
-
Step 2
The problem is that you can't just say "ir". The verb changes depending on who is doing the action. You need to know if it is:
I go
You go
He/She/It goes
We go
or They go
Depending on who it is, "ir" will change. -
Step 3
The Spanish for the above is the following:
I go = voy
You go = vas
He/she/it goes = va
We go = vamos
You (more than one person) = van
They go = van
Note that the "v" in each of the words is pronounced closer to a "b" sound than a "v". That's because Spanish words are not pronounced like English words. -
Step 4
Just when you thought it had gotten complicated, it becomes more complicated. In Spanish there is a respectful form of the word "you". It is "Usted". When you are talking to someone of authority are someone much older than yourself, you must use the "Usted" form of the verb.
The "Usted" for ir is:
You go = Va or Usted va -
Step 5
In Spain, they have an additional conjugation, but I won't go through the details here because most Spanish speakers are not from Spain!
-
Step 6
Now you know how to say "go" in Spanish. Good luck!
