How to Depill a Slipcover
A good slipcover is made to last for a long time, but even though your slipcover may have years of wear left, unattractive fuzz and pills can make it look old before its time. An effective process of pill removal can make your slipcover--and your furniture--look cleaner and newer. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place the slipcover over its intended piece of furniture; it will be easier to depill when it is stretched out with all of its surface area available to you.
-
2
Cut off large pills with scissors. Take care, however, to look carefully at each pill as you cut it and make sure you are cutting the pills away from the woven fabric threads they are attached to rather than severing any of the threads themselves; this will help you avoid making small holes in the slipcover or causing fraying. In some cases, this will mean trimming down a pill rather than trimming it off.

3
Remove loose fuzz and pills with adhesive tape. Wrap some strong tape, such as duct tape, around your hand, sticky side out. Press the sticky side against sections of the slipcover where you see loose fuzz beginning to form.
-
4
Use a fuzz shaver. This is a product available in most "big box" department stores, designed specifically to remove pills from fabric. It works in a manner similar to the way an electric razor works.
-
5
Scrape the slipcover gently with a disposable razor. For heavy-duty depilling that the fuzz shaver can't handle, use a single-blade disposable razor to skim away fuzz and pills.
