Tips & Warnings
Practice this on cheap champagne bottles before trying it on a bottle you intend to drink. This technique requires some practice before a person can consistently perform it correctly.
The bottle is not being cut by the sword or saber. It is a good idea to use a blunt sword or saber for this to avoid the chance of cutting yourself.
Always inspect any champagne for glass before drinking. There is always a chance a few small shards may have entered the bottle when using this technique.
Do not point the cork of the bottle in the direction of a person when opening a champagne bottle. It will fly off of the bottle with a high enough velocity to cause injury.
