Gift baskets and boxes allow you to create a personal gift item for anyone on your holiday shopping list. Designing the exterior of the package to match the items inside makes the entire present a keepsake worth giving. With just a few items, an ordinary basket or box transforms into a charming and heartfelt gift.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Craft paint
  • Ribbon
  • Craft glue or hot glue gun
  • Various craft findings
  • Gift items
  1. Step 1

Select the type of gift basket or box you want to create for the occasion. Simple designs work best when planning to decorate the container with other items.

  2. Step 2

Paint the basket or box to match the theme of the gift. Pastel colors work well for baby showers, while bold colors can be used for birthdays or other celebrations. Allow the container to dry completely before attaching any decorations.

  3. Step 3

Add ribbon to baskets by weaving the cloth through the webbing of the basket. Attach ribbon to boxes with craft glue or a glue gun. Colored or textured paper may be substituted for the ribbon if it is more appropriate.

  4. Step 4

Attach other craft findings like silk flowers or beads to the exterior of the basket or box. Many times, the more simple touches create a bigger impact. An example would be to hang a miniature grapevine wreath, completely decorated, onto the basket or box.

  5. Step 5

Insert filler paper into the gift basket or box and cover with a sheet of tissue paper. Add the gift items in a pleasing manner. For more support, glue the items down or tape them together so they do not slip while transporting.

  6. Step 6

Cover the crafted gift basket or box with a thin colored sheet of plastic film and tie at the top or tape to the bottom of the container. Attach a bow and name tag if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use caution when using a glue gun as the tip and glue are extremely hot and can cause damage to the skin.
