How to Dye Suede Two Tone Shoes

Two tone shoes are back in fashion and make a great thrift store find. Unfortunately, shopping secondhand often means you have to settle for something that isn't quite right--then take matters into your own hands. This is where dyeing two tone suede shoes comes in, and you'll see that the options are nearly endless. Elvis wasn't the only one to have blue suede shoes.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your work space. Cover a flat surface with a protective sheet such as newspaper and have your clean cloth, dyes and applicators nearby.

    • 2

Begin with the cleanest shoe possible. If your shoes are not new, clean them with a roughout cleaner with a clean cloth per manufacturer instructions and allow to dry.

    • 3

Dip the applicator dauber into the dye well and gently apply color evenly in a sponging motion. Use your cloth to soak up and rub out any excess dye. Allow to dry.

    • 4

If you are working with intermediary colors or want to punch up your original, repeat as necessary, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings

  • When drastically changing the color of your suede shoes, it is best to do an intermediate color application. For example, if you are beginning with yellow suede, apply a dark green and then a black, allowing each color to dry.
