Things You'll Need

  • Paper towels
  • Warm water
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Liquid hand soap
  • Measuring spoon

Instructions

      Blot up as much of the urine as possible using paper towels. Discard used paper towels when finished.

      Dampen a paper towel (or some paper towels ) with warm water. Wipe away any remaining residue from the affected area of flooring, then blot the area dry using dry paper towels.

      Combine 1 cup water, 1/2 tsp. hydrogen peroxide, a sprinkle of baking soda and 2 squirts of liquid hand soap in a spray bottle. pray this mixture onto the affected area and let sit for five minutes.

      Use a dampened paper towel to wipe away the cleaning solution.

      Dry the area once more with dry paper towels. Discard any used paper towels.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any clean, absorbent cloth works well in place of paper towels for cleaning up cat urine in any of the steps above. Cloth diapers are an excellent substitute for paper towels in these steps. Store bought cleaners formulated to get rid of cat urine stains and odors are available in pet stores and can be substituted for the hydrogen peroxide cleaner in Step 3. Remember, the faster you act to remove cat urine stains the better your chances are of preventing any long-term damage to your hardwood flooring.
