A muffler is a metal cylinder at the tail end of a dirt bike's exhaust system, and is in place to reduce exhaust noise. One type of muffler, most often used on dirt bikes, is filled with fiberglass sound-deadening material surrounding a metal core with holes in it. The other type of muffler is filled with a baffle. A baffle is a metal cylinder that looks like a honeycomb with holes in it. The exhaust is pushed through the baffle channels, which breaks up the exhaust pulse reducing the noise.
