How to Add Decimal Hours
Because the metric time system counts 100 seconds per minute, 100 minutes per hour and 10 hours per day, metric hours, minutes and seconds are not equal to their standard equivalents. Each decimal hour equates to about 2.4 standard hours, each decimal minute represents 1.44 standard minutes. and each decimal second represents about 0.864 standard seconds. Though rarely used, the metric time system can provide a simple way to calculate time without relying on the comparably illogical increments of standard time.

1
Add the number of decimal seconds in the time increment you plan to measure. If the total is greater than 100, carry an extra minute over to the minute column. For example, if you added 4:45:20 in decimal hours to 3:75:90 in decimal hours, you would add 20 and 90 to get 110. Since this number exceeds 100, you would have 1 decimal minute, 10 decimal seconds.

2
Add the decimal minutes together along with any minutes carried from Step 1. If the total exceeds 100, carry an extra hour over to the hour column. For example, if you added 4:45:20 in decimal hours to 3:75:90 in decimal hours, you would add 45 and 75 plus the minute carried over to get 121. Since this number exceeds 100, you would have 1 decimal hour, 21 decimal minutes.

Add the decimal hours together, along with any hours carried from Step 2. If the total exceeds 10, carry an extra hour over to the day column. For example, if you added 4:45:20 in decimal hours to 3:75:90 in decimal hours, you would add 4 and 3 and the 1 hour carried over to get 8. Your final tally would total 8 decimal hours, 21 decimal minutes and 10 decimal seconds.
