Ensure that you have at least a 56K modem installed on your computer. Anything less than 56K will result in extremely slow connection speeds. If you are not sure of whether or not your modem is 56K, consult your computer manufacturer.

Subscribe to the NetZero "Accelerated Dialup Service." NetZero brags that the accelerated service is one of the fastest dialup services you can get. As of 2009, the service costs around $15 per month, which is a few dollars more than NetZero's regular dialup service.

After subscribing to the accelerated service, you will be able to download and install the "HiSpeed Accelerator" software on your computer. The icon for the accelerator will appear in your desktop's "System Tray" after it has been downloaded and installed.

Place your mouse over the HiSpeed Accelerator icon in the system tray. Click on the "Settings" option. After clicking on settings you will be able to adjust the "Image Quality" settings. The higher the image quality the slower your speeds will be because it takes longer to generate higher-quality images. Drag the quality bar to the "Medium" setting.

Visit the My.NetZero.net website to choose a different local access number to connect to the Internet. By getting an access number that is less congested, you may experience greater speed.

Many people choose from the top of the list of access numbers. Try choosing from the bottom of the list. Be sure to check with your local telephone company to verify that the number is a local number to avoid long-distance charges.

Use a shorter telephone cable to connect the Internet. Longer cables require data packets to travel longer from the outlet to your modem, which can significantly slow your connection.

Contact NetZero if you are still unsatisfied with your dialup Internet speed. The company also offers NetZero HiSpeed DSL, its fastest service. The NetZero representative will be able to advise you whether or not the HiSpeed service is available in your area. If you subscribe to the DSL service, you will be shipped a DSL modem to connect to your computer.
