How to Put Together a Mattress Frame
Whether it's a twin or a king, putting together a mattress frame is a fairly simple task. Many newer bed frames won't even require tools for assembly. There are usually two sizes you can choose from: one for twin- and double-sized mattresses, and another for queen- and king-sized mattresses. Although frames differ by design, if the original instruction manual is nowhere to be found, here are the fundamentals on how you can assemble your frame. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clear the area where you intend to install your mattress. Vacuum or sweep the floor to remove any dust or debris.
-
2
Place the rails on the floor where you are going to be assembling the frame. Unfold the upper and lower arms; note that they may be folded flat against the side rails.
-
-
3
Affix the headboard brackets if they are not already attached to the side rails. Use the supplied screws or bolts. Place end caps on the other end of the side rails (if equipped).
-
4
Fasten the upper and lower cross arms of each side bar together. This may entail sliding the small metal shoulder rivets affixed to the cross arm into a corresponding "keyhole" on the opposite cross arm. Pull side rails outward to "lock." Secure with screws (if applicable).
-
5
Use a tape measure to check that the frame is the right size for your mattress. If it is too small or too large, readjust the rivets to the correct keyhole to make it fit.
-
6
Attach the third or center cross support (if equipped) by setting it inside the bed frame diagonally and rotating into the correct position. Make sure it aligns with any markers or indicators that may be on the side rails. This part may either be affixed by screws or may merely slide onto the side rails.
-
7
Attach any casters or wheels. Check that they are secured into their brackets. Use screws to attach the frame to your headboard (if you have one). Place the mattress onto the frame.
