Removing track light fixtures is as simple as installing them. Track lights are the lighting fixtures that attach to a track, which is a prewired metal channel. The track is attached to the ceiling with screws.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn off the switch and circuit breaker that controls the track light system.

  2. Step 2

Position your ladder to reach the track light fixture comfortably. Remove the track lights by pulling down on the safety clip and twisting the fixture. Set the lights aside.

  3. Step 3

Locate the power feed connection, which will be at the middle of the track or at one end. If the power feed connection is in the middle, twist it to disconnect the track fixture from the power source. If on the end of the track, open the tiny cover plate by removing the two small screws. Disconnect the wires and remove the end cap.

  4. Step 4

Remove the mounting screws inside the track channel. These screws hold the track to the ceiling. Remove the track assembly from the ceiling. Cap the open wires at the electric box that feeds the fixture with wire nuts and tape.

  5. Step 5

Turn the breaker back on. Patch and paint the ceiling.
