How to Make Faux Roman Shade Window Treatments
-
1
Measure your window. Measure the inside of your window, height and width, at the top, middle and bottom to get accurate measurements.
-
2
Cut your fabric or wallpaper. Adding 2 inches to the width and 6 inches to the length, cut your fabric or wallpaper according to the measurements you have taken. Cut two pieces of ribbon, both twice as long as the length of your faux roman shade.

Fold over and iron 1-inch seams on the sides and bottom of your fabric, or fold 1-inch seams on the sides and bottom of your wallpaper. Secure by sewing, using No Sew on your fabric seams or gluing your wallpaper seams. Complete the same step on the top of your fabric or wallpaper with a 1/2-inch seam.
-
4
Add the ribbons by measuring 3 inches down from the top and 3 to 4 inches in on either side to mark the place you will connect each ribbon. Use your judgment to determine the right placement based on the width of your faux Roman shade. Sew or glue the middle of one of the ribbons to each of your marks. At this point you should have two ribbons an equal distance from each side that will be used to tie the faux roman shade.
-
5
Fold the top over so that the place you sewed or glued the ribbons is at the very top and you can create a pocket for the tension rod to be placed through the fabric or wallpaper. Sew, No Sew or glue the seam, creating the pocket for the curtain rod.
-
6
Hang the faux Roman shade on the tension rod, allowing the ribbons to hang down the front and back of the shade. Fold the shade and tie the ribbons at the height you desire to keep the shade folded, allowing the bow to hang.
