A GE Spacesaver wall mount dryer can be easily installed in a small area to give you more room and flexibility in a room. While the dryer itself is much smaller, and only holds relatively small loads of clothes, the dryer can be mounted onto a wall in virtually any room with the right tools. In addition to wall space, you will need a 240-volt electrical outlet as well as access to an exterior/outside location for the dryer vent.
Things You'll Need
- 2, 2x4 beams, approximately 3 to 4 feet in length
- Stud finder
- 1 wall-mounting bracket
- 2 bottom brackets
- 6, 1/4 x 3-inch wood screws
- 7,1/4 x 1 1/2-inch wood screws
- Dryer exhaust tubing
Locate two studs in the wall you want to install the dryer on and make a small mark. Be sure that a 240-volt electrical outlet is within 3 feet of the location where you want to install your dryer.
Cut two 2x4 panels large enough to reach two wall studs and also be the same width as the dryer itself.
Secure the upper 2x4 with four 1/4 x 3-inch wood screws, and be sure the wood is level. Measure about 32 inches down, and install the other 2x4 with four 1/4 x 3-inch wood screws as well.
Measure 1/8 inch down from the bottom of the upper 2x4 support beam. Install the metal wall bracket into place with five 1/4 x 1 1/2-inch wood screws.
Remove one screw from each of the lower rear corners of the actual dryer. Reusing those same screws, secure the dryer's bottom brackets into place.
Position the dryer on the wall mounting bracket and secure it into place. Screw the bottom of the dryer into place on the lower 2x4 support using the remaining two 1/4 x 1 1/2-inch wood screws.
Install the dryer exhaust tubing from the back of the dryer to an outside vent or through a window. Be sure that the vent is securely put into place as it exits the room so that it does not blow any exhaust back into the room.
