How to Install Hinges on an Armoire
An armoire is a piece of furniture that can be used to store clothes, a television or can even be used as a computer desk. Doors are typically attached to each side of the armoire by hinges that open and close just like a typical cabinet door. The doors on an armoire can have between 2 and 3 hinges, depending on the size of the door. You can easily install hinges on an armoire by first making sure you have the proper measurements. Measure the length of the door opening on the armoire to determine how many hinges you will need. If the door on the armoire is 3 feet or less, you will only need 2 hinges.

Determine where the hinges should be located on the door. Hinges should be an equal distance from the top and bottom of the door, for example, 1 foot away from each edge.

Measure and mark with a pencil 1 foot from the top and bottom of each door. This is where the hinges will be mounted on the doors.

Measure and mark 1 foot from the top and bottom on the inside of the armoire, on both sides, where the doors will be mounted. This is where the hinges will be mounted on the armoire.

Place a hinge on one of the marks on the inside of the armoire. The hinge can be centered on the mark, placed above the mark or placed below the mark. Mark the screw holes on the inside of the armoire with a pencil. Do this for each original mark that you made in the armoire.

Place a hinge on one of marks on the armoire door. The hinge should be placed in the same location as the inside of the armoire. Mark the screw holes on the door with a pencil. Do this for the remaining marks on each door.

Pre-drill holes on the inside of the armoire and the doors using a power drill. The screw holes should be about ¼ of an inch deep or less, depending on the width of the door.

Place a hinge on one of the armoire doors and secure it with screws using the power drill or a screwdriver. This will need to be done for each hinge that will go on the door.

Place the door on the armoire and align the hinge with the pre-driled holes. Secure the hinge to the inside of the armoire with screws using the power drill or a screwdriver.

Tips & Warnings
Use a tape measure to verify that the marks you made for the hinge screw holes are the same distance on the inside of the armoire and the doors.
If the measurements for the screw holes are not exact, the hinges will not align correctly.
Be careful not to drill a hole through the armoire or any of the doors.
