How to Finish a Flagstone Patio
If you are wondering how to finish your flagstone patio it is important to note that you should not seal patios made from flagstone with any kind of urethane sealer as it will clog the porous surfaces of the rocks. This will keep air from penetrating the rocks, causing them to discolor and weaken. It will also make your patio slippery when wet. However, the longevity and appearance of your patio can be preserved by finishing it with a siloxane concrete sealer. Siloxane sealer will protect the patio from water, frost and sun damage, and wear and tear from foot traffic, and it will help retain the natural look of the stones. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean your patio by sweeping and spraying it down with a high-pressure hose sprayer. Use dish soap to clean any stains or spots. Allow the patio to dry.

2
Apply sealer when the temperature outside is between 60 and 90 degrees F and when there is no chance of rain.

Apply sealer with large, durable paintbrushes or with paint rollers. Siloxane can also be applied with a pressurized sprayer. Use a low setting, such as 15 PSI, if you are using a sprayer. Do not dilute the siloxane with water and make sure your brushes are dry. Apply one even coating. Paint the mortar as well as the stones. Spread a layer thick enough that you see a whitish film (it will dry clear). Do not let it pool up. If you accidentally get some of the siloxane on something besides the patio, such as metal or a window, wash it off with dish soap and water.

Allow the sealer to dry for 24 hours. Do not let anyone walk on the patio during this time.
