How to Treat a Cats Ear Infection With a Natural Remedy

If your cat has been shaking his head or rubbing his ear against any surface, then he may have an ear infection. Ear infections are common ailments among cats, are usually not a serious illness and can be treated successfully at home. According to the Earth Clinic website, feline ear infection can be treated at home by applying a natural remedy of an apple cider vinegar-based solution to the inside of your cat's ear. Apple cider vinegar contains anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties similar to that of an antibiotic, which is the commonly prescribed veterinary treatment for feline ear infection. Treating a cat's ear infection at home is a simple process that does not require special skills.

Things You'll Need

• Bowl
• Apple cider vinegar
• Spoon
• Cotton balls (cotton swabs also work)
• Dry, clean towel

Instructions

1. Fill a small bowl with 1/4 cup lukewarm tap water.

2. Add 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar to the bowl.

3. Stir the apple cider vinegar and water solution.

4. Saturate a cotton ball with the solution.

5. Apply the solution gently to the inside of your cat's ear with the cotton ball. Don't press too firmly because this may cause your pet discomfort. Use the solution on one or both ears, depending on your pet's infection.

6. Use a dry towel to cleanse your cat of any solution that fell onto his fur.

7. Reapply the solution every 4 to 6 hours until the infection clears.

• If the infection does not improve after 48 hours of treatment, seek advice from your pet's health-care provider.
