Vinyl fences are very popular because they have a great look that is easy to clean and maintain. Vinyl fences are made of non-porous materials that makes cleaning a fence easy since dirt, grime and even graffiti wont stick to the surface. Some maintenance, such as repairing holes, can prove a bit more challenging.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean Towels
  • Water
  • Expanding Insulation Foam
  • Plastic Body Filler
  • Medium Grit Sandpaper
  • Fine Grit Sandpaper
  • Hand Saw
  • Spray Paint

How to Repair a Vinyl Fence

  • Wipe the area down with a damp towel to remove any dirt and debris that is around or at the edge of the hole.

  • Sand a 2" area around the hole with the medium grit sandpaper.

  • Determine if you will need the expanding insulation foam. You will use this if the hole is larger than 1 1/2" in diameter. Anything smaller doesn't need the foam, so you can skip to Step 8.

  • Spray the expanding foam into the hole. Do this slowly to allow the foam to expand and take hold on the inside of the fence. Fill it until there is a little foam oozing from the hole.

  • Allow the expanding insulation foam to dry overnight.

  • Saw away the excess foam that has dried outside of the hole.

  • Sand the remainder down with the medium grit sandpaper to make a slight divot in the fence. You don't want it flush because you will be placing the plastic filler in that will need to be flush.

  • Wipe away any dust or debris with a damp towel.

  • Fill the hole with the plastic body filler. Allow this to dry for an hour.

  • Sand the body filler with the medium, and then the fine grit sandpaper to make the plastic filler flush to the fence surface.

  • Wipe away any dust.

  • Paint to match.
