You've completed your repair jobs, your craft projects, or your touchups, and you were able to complete all of them using superglue. Now it's time to clean up the mess. The only problem is that your trusty, fix-all companion is hopelessly stuck to your work surfaces. It is common to have superglue stick to your porcelain sink because it dries instantly when it contacts moisture, but it is also easy to remove the glue from this surface.
Things You'll Need
- Acetone based fingernail polish remover
- Cotton swabs
- Warm water
Apply fingernail polish remover to a cotton swab and rub the affected area on the porcelain sink. The acetone will slowly dissolve the superglue.
Scrape gently with a razor blade or sand gradually with sandpaper to remove the softened portion of the glue.
Soften remaining glue with more fingernail polish remover and scrape or sand once more. Continue this pattern until all glue is removed.
Rinse the sink with warm water until all of the fingernail polish remover and superglue is gone.
Tips & Warnings
- Confirm that your fingernail polish remover contains acetone. Many brands are abandoning the chemical because of its adverse affects on acrylic fingernails.
- Fingernail polish remover may damage or discolor surfaces. Apply it to a small, inconspicuous area to see how it affects the sink. Use the product sparingly. The sandpaper and razorblade may also scratch the porcelain. Do not over-scrape.
