How to Embellish a Fleece Shirt

Embellished shirts always have been popular and are a great way to add a little flash to a simple outfit. Unfortunately, the more embellished something is the more expensive it becomes. Fortunately, it can be simple to take a plain shirt and embellish it yourself.

Instructions

  1. Fabric Flowers

    • 1

Cut a strip of your scrap fabric so it is 22 inches long by 3 inches wide.

    • 2

Sew a running stitch along one edge of the fabric. Take ends of thread and pull to gather your fabric strip into a round, flower-like shape. Secure flower together in the center. This is your basic flower base.

    • 3

Cut another strip of coordinating fabric, this time 16 inches long and 2 inches wide. Repeat the above step to gather into the flower shape and secure. Secure this smaller flower on top of your flower base. This can be repeated again using a strop that is 10 inches long and 1 inch wide.

    • 4

Secure your flowers onto your shirt wherever you choose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use different fabrics--try colors and patterns or different textures.

  • Glue or sew a button or rhinestone into the center of your finished flower.

  • Try making different size flowers.

  • Only use the base or just two tiers instead of the three.
