How to Use Clear Waterborne Wood Grain Filler
Wood grain filler is often confused with wood filler. While wood filler is used to fill in small holes and gouges in wood, wood grain filler is a solution applied to fill in the tiny crevices in the grain of the wood which creates a crystal smooth surface. Rather than covering up the wood as so many staining products do, wood grain filler actually enhances the appearance and color of the wood by minimizing the appearance of the wood grain. Things You'll Need
- Wood grain filler
- Sandpaper
- Paint brush
- Putty knife
- Squeegee
- Lambswool buffer

Using a fine grade sandpaper, completely sand the surface of the wood to remove any rough spots or splinters.

Use a cloth to thoroughly wipe down the wood to remove all dust. If you have access to an air compressor, this works well to blow off any remaining dust.

Use a paint brush to apply the wood grain filler in long, even strokes over the entire surface of the wood. Some people prefer to use a putty knife to apply the wood grain filler by scraping it onto the wood in long, smooth strokes while pushing downward.

Drag a squeegee firmly across the entire surface of the wood to remove any excess wood grain filler. Allow the wood to dry completely, which can take several hours.

Use sandpaper to lightly sand the entire surface of the wood again, and remove the dust using a cloth.

Use a lambswool buffing pad to buff the finish of the wood to produce a brilliant shine.
