How to Get Underarm Stains Out of Clothes

Your favorite shirt or blouse has stains. The stains are not always visible---just when you raise your arms. The stain is an underarm stain from antiperspirant and sweat. Your have attempted to remove the stains before, but failed. You don't want to use a commercial cleaner, and dry cleaning is too expensive. You can get underarm stains out of your clothes. All you need is some baking soda, a plastic bag and your washing machine. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Large bowl
  • Baking soda
  • Warm water
  • Spoon
  • Plastic bag -- Ziploc or other brand
  • Laundry detergent
  • Washing machine
  • Dryer, clothesline or drying rack

Instructions

    • 1

      Lay the shirt or blouse on a clean, flat surface.

      In a large bowl, mix 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of warm water.

      Stir the mixture with a spoon.

      Dip the underarm sections of the shirt or blouse into the baking soda mixture. Let each section stand in the mixture for at least two minutes.

      Remove the shirt or blouse from the mixture and place the garment in a plastic bag that closes like a Ziploc bag.

      Push any air out of the plastic bag and seal the bag close.

      Leave the shirt or blouse in the plastic bag overnight.

      Wash the shirt or blouse in warm water; however, if cold water is recommended---use it. Follow any recommendations on the garment's tag or label.

      Dry the shirt or blouse in a clothes dryer, outside on a clothesline or on a drying rack.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the shirt or blouse is delicate, do not dry the garment in a clothes dryer. Hang the shirt or blouse on a drying rack or outside on a clothesline.
