How to Make Your Own Golf Mat
Golf mats are often preferred by driving ranges because they are cheaper than planting natural grass, they are more durable and they can survive through all seasons indoors or outdoors with minimal maintenance. You can also build your own golf mat for practice purposes, either at a range or, with the use of a net, in your own home.

1
Take a normal stance with your driver (or whichever is your longest club), and measure the distance from your heels to the toe of the club head. This is your stance width. Also measure the distance from the outside of your front foot to the outside of your rear foot.
-
2
Add one foot to the measurements to allow yourself extra space. Generally, a 4 x 5-foot rectangle is sufficient space. These will be the dimensions of your golf mat.

3
Buy your materials in these dimensions if possible. Otherwise, use a saw to cut the plywood and an X-Acto knife to trim the carpet padding and artificial turf. Make sure the materials line up well.
-
4
Cut a small hole in the carpet padding and turf (half-inch diameter) six inches from the center of the rectangle's longer side.
-
5
Glue the rubber tee to a corresponding point on the plywood, six inches from the center of the longer side of the plywood rectangle.
-
6
Coat the surface of the plywood with adhesive, and lay the carpet padding on it, aligning the hole so that the rubber tee pokes through it. Wait for the adhesive to dry.
-
7
Glue the artificial turf to the top of the carpet padding, again aligning the tee with the hole so that it pokes through to the surface. Give the entire mat 24 hours to dry before using.
